Actor Heath Ledger's Brooklyn Bar Opens

Heath Ledger's bar, Five Leaves, in the Brooklyn borough of New York City is set to open on Wednesday, almost eight months after the actor's untimely death.

"It's all meant to be a super casual California- and Australia-tinged cafe, coffeehouse and oyster bar, with greenmarket snacks," a critic for UrbanDaddy.com wrote.

With steel light fixtures and "wire concoctions that seem right out of a lab," Five Leaves resembles "a bar that Thomas Edison might have built for his buddies," according to the review. The door to the bar's bathroom is a "massive, '20s-era boiler room door."

On the bar's menu? Sliced radishes on toast with Evans Farmhouse butter.

Ledger, who financially backed the bar, died at age 28 of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in January.

Ledger's ex Michelle Williams lives with their 2-year-old daughter Matilda in Brooklyn.

Heath Ledger's portrayal in the Dark Knight as the Joker has been called the summer's best movie villain. He won 95% of the votes in a poll conducted by Moviefone.com. That's quite a large percentage. Cate Blanchett came in second for her role in Indiana Jones.

The Dark Knight has also been named the winner in the categories for Best Sequel, Best Superhero Movie, Best Action Sequence and Movie Most Worth Your Cash.

We have a feeling this is just the beginning of awards this movie will win this year. Bring on the award shows!

CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER Talks about Heath's death

Veteran actor CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER suspects London's cold, damp night air contributed to the death of HEATH LEDGER on Tuesday (22Jan08).

The 78-year-old was filming movie The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus with Ledger in the British capital last week (ends18Jan08). Plummer reveals that the Australian star was suffering from "walking pneumonia" and that Ledger was having trouble sleeping because they were filming the Terry Gilliam movie at night.

He says, "We're all a bit befuddled at the moment. It's so sad. "Heath did have a terrible, lingering bug in London, and he couldn't sleep at all. We all - I thought he'd probably got walking pneumonia, which they seem to think he had. Of course, I don't really know, but that's the latest...

"The last few days we were shooting outside a pub. Always outside. Cold as bejesus. You know how damp it gets in London. And at night the temperature drops horribly, and that little breeze gets up. You have to wear tons of
stuff...

"Shooting at night in a big city, it's not easy.... We were working in such dire conditions in London, outside every night in the cold. Which may have contributed somewhat to his health. We were all armed with antibiotics all the time. It wasn't exactly joyous, except that the film itself was fun to do.

"Heath's death is sort of literally unbelievable, because apart from the sleeping, he was in such good form.... There was a sweetness about him. He was a very charming and gentle guy, actually... I just left a very laughing, happy fellow, practically a few minutes ago."

Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment on Tuesday. An autopsy carried out on Wednesday (23Jan08) failed to reveal how the actor died, although police believe his death could be drug-related as five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment.
